Parish Pastoral Council

Mission Statement
Our aim as a Parish is to become a Community of People who are seriously moved by the Spirit of Jesus to care for one another, personally and in community and share responsibility for bringing into being the Kingdom of God.
What is the Parish Pastoral Council ?
The Parish Pastoral Council has been established since 2000 under a mandate from the Arch Diocese to provide a leadership role within the parish to enable priests and people to work together with a shared responsibility for the mission of the church. The Council is presided over by the Parish Priest/Local Administrator and the priests, parish sister and parish secretary are ex office members. The remainder of the Council are parish laity elected at the Parish Assembly (every two years) and/or nominated by the Council (a copy of the council’s constitution is available from the Parish office)
What is the purpose of a Parish Pastoral Council?
The Parish Pastoral Council is a leadership structure that enables priests and people to work together to build up dynamic Christian communities that are characterised by faith, evangelisation, worship and service. To this end they discern what is best for the parish in light of the gospel, the church’s teaching and what the Holy Spirit is saying through the People of God. Their major tasks involve:
Reflection and planning: Establish needs of parish community
Animation: Enable baptised to discover their call as disciples of Christ –discern the gifts ofparishioners – develop by formation
Action: Match needs of Parish with the gifts and resources in the Parish
Communication: Ensure effective dialogue within parish –widercommunity
Evaluation: Review life/activities of parish

Who Are We?
We share a common mission – gospel based – which is bigger than any particular interest group. A pastoral council must articulate, in dialogue with the whole community, a vision of itself and the parish. It is to this ideal that we are striving.

What Do We Do?
The Parish Pastoral Council offers a genuine forum for reflection on the pastoral concerns, hopes and ideas of parishioners.
The Council meets on the second Monday of the month. The Parish Pastoral Council is concerned with issues that affect the life of the parish rather than the administration or financial management of the parish.
The Agenda is set one week in advance of the meeting. Parishioners are invited to submit in writing issues they would like to see included on the Agenda. Submissions can be left in to the Parish Secretary, Sheila Behan or given to any member of the Council
Parish Finance Committee
A separate committee appointed by Fr Liam PP to manage the Parish Finances. The Pastoral Council has no responsibility for the Parish finances
Parish Pastoral Centre
A separate management board under the chairmanship of Eoin Farren has been established to manage the affairs of the Pastoral Centre. That board manages its own finances for the Centre, both income and expenditure. The Board is answerable to the Pastoral Council for the pastoral usage of the centre.
Co-Operation with Neighbouring Parishes
The Archdiocese has requested that the Parishes of Kilmacud and Mount Merrion establish strong links with a view to sharing resources and planning joint initiatives.
